4 Favorite Protein Shakes (for a busy business owner)

Mar 17, 2024

As an athlete with asthma and the owner of two businesses, I don't always have very much time to make sure that I am getting the nutrition that I need. Over the years I have learned though, that no matter how busy I get, nutrition is not negotiable because without health what do we have? Therefore, in this blog post I will be covering what my 4 favorite protein shakes are that not only provide an easy breakfast that takes me less than 5 minutes to make, it also provides so many nutrients that it fuels me throughout the day.

Flavors

I divide my protein shakes into four flavors: blueberry, strawberry, cherry, and chocolate. Rotating these flavors daily helps me prevent allergies and maintain variety in my diet.

Dairy and Nut Milk Alternatives

Due to dairy and nut allergies, I opt for coconut and oat milk over traditional dairy or nut-based options. These alternatives provide creaminess without the added sugars found in fruit juices.

Greens

Incorporating greens like spinach and arugula adds essential nutrients to my shakes. I rotate between these options to minimize the risk of developing allergies while maintaining a diverse diet. I shoot for having 1-2 cups of greens in each of my smoothies every single day.

Daily: Collagen and Hemp Protein Powders

Currently, in every single protein shake that I make, I incorporate both Collagen and Hemp protein powders due to their amazing health benefits. Along with being amazing protein sources, collagen has anti-aging properties, is great for your skin, hair, and joints. Hemp protein on the other hand, has a ton of fiber, so when mixed with the 1-2 cups of greens, is the perfect way to keep my system clean daily.

Mix and Match: Egg White Protein, Bone Broth Protein, and Whey Protein

To meet my protein goals, I mix and match protein powders, ensuring a balanced blend of amino acids. By rotating protein sources, I minimize the risk of developing sensitivities. I currently rotate between egg white protein, bone broth, protein, and whey protein powders.

40 to 60 grams of Protein Per Protein Shake

I aim for approximately 40 to 60 grams of protein in each of the protein shakes that I make every single day. By starting my day with a protein-packed shake, I set a solid foundation for meeting my daily protein requirements. At the writing of this blog post, I weigh 161.3 pounds and work out 10-20 hours per week depending on the week, therefore, I personally know that I need 160 grams of protein per day, why not kick off the day getting as close to 60 grams as possible?

I'll tell you what. When I don't do it, I feel tired, weak, and just not as good throughout the rest of my day.

Healthy Living Guide

In addition to protein shakes, I follow three pillars of healthy living: nutrition, exercise, and mindfulness.
